Cigar Box...Dresser Box...What is it?

This started life as a cigar box. All around the edge, part of the pattern, says "hand made" I saw this and just knew it had to be re-purposed into a "dresser box" for Bud. The outside is collaged with vintage street maps of Paris and random other items. The inside are schedules of the Orient Express overlaid with a gel transfer of a sweet dog from last year's dog calendar. A tiny mirror and vintage valentine complete the look. Everything was aged with distress ink to unify the colors.

This will be at Calef's on July 11th for upclose inspections!

Masks

The main image on the background of this collage was achieved with a mask. A mask is just a plastic "reverse stencil" that is used to protect portions of your art from other colors applied over the top. This mask came from Tim Holtz' Idea-ology line. The wonderful depth of color was achieved with Glimmer Mists. Base coat is Lemon Yellow, when that was dry Oriental Poppy was applied and once that was dry the mask was placed down and a coat of Autumn Leaves completed the process. Leave your mask in place until the watercolor is dry or remove it VERY CAREFULLY. Trust me on this, I know ALL the ways to smudge it!

Watercolor backgrounds

You and achieve a fun effect when dropping a bit of water, or salt on your watercolor backgrounds. The water would be dropped on a dry background and the salt on a wet background. You can see in this small collage the dimension it adds.

This is the little devil who has taken over our lives. He absolutely RULES the house and acts more like a dog than a cat. He fetches, growls and is crazy about

toys...in particular a ratty piece of purple felt.

Tiny Art

This is a tiny 2" square collage on canvas using a 1928 TV listing, a real pressed flower and fern leaf and a moth postage stamp. Everything is adhered with beeswax and then polished to a satin finish. On the back the tiny woden opening has text and screen collaged in....wearable tiny art.

Multi-media card

This is a sample of the note cards made for the CVHS Festival July 11th. It includes mica chips, some gold leafing, a bit of found metal and collage techniques; all on brown kraft stock...You KNOW how Daddy loves to fish!

A good laugh...

Just a little easel art to remind us to laugh...
This uses an image transfer technique that is too cool. If you look closely you can see the various background detail through the dog! Since Tom took this photo the dog has received a pink crown...
